Licia Martini is an Italian-born artist whose life and practice bridge Europe and the Middle East. Born in Cuneo, Italy, she earned a degree in philosophy from the University of Turin in 1971 before relocating to Egypt in 1974, where she became deeply engaged in the cultural and educational landscape. Alongside her work as a teacher at the Italian school in Cairo, she played an active role in organizing exhibitions and contributing to social and cultural initiatives within the arts sector. Since her first solo exhibition at the Cairo Opera House in 1994, Martini has maintained a consistent presence in both solo and group exhibitions across Egypt and internationally. Her works are held in notable public and private collections, including the Cairo Opera House and institutions and collectors across Europe and the Middle East.
Martini’s artistic practice reflects a layered sensibility shaped by her philosophical background and cross-cultural experience. Her work often engages with human presence, memory, and the emotional resonance of place, expressed through a refined visual language that balances structure and spontaneity. Through evolving styles across different periods, she explores the relationship between inner perception and external reality, creating compositions that invite contemplation and dialogue. Her paintings frequently carry a poetic, introspective quality, where color, gesture, and form act as vehicles for narrative and atmosphere, positioning her work within a broader discourse of contemporary art that merges personal reflection with universal themes.
